This polluted muck test likewise contained a high part of phosphorus, apparently the purpose behind its advancement as a manure. Notwithstanding, the nearness of elevated levels of cadmium and lead in the ooze make it totally unsatisfactory for use as a manure. The North American Frontier Contributed Greatly To Todays Essay Example For Students

The North American Frontier Contributed Greatly To Todays Essay The North American boondocks contributed extraordinarily to todaysAmerican culture. For about 150 years before autonomy, theAppalachian mountain go had been the American outskirts, separatingcivilization from wild. At the point when North America picked up independenceand turned into the United States, be that as it may, individuals moved morefreely over the boondocks, into the obscure. The land had a place tothem now, and they were allowed to investigate it anyway profoundly they choseclaiming voluntarily what land they saw. One can clarify Americandevelopment as the presence of a huge region of free land constantlyreceding, and American settlement propelling westbound. The differencein American organizations from those of some other country is thatAmerican establishments have a method of adjusting to thegrowing, changing country for which they were forced. In addition,American improvement has demonstrated itself to be a development alonga single boondocks, yet a pattern of coming b ack to crude conditionsalong a continually moving wilderness line, at that point settling and civilizingthose zones. The American outskirts is additionally not normal for that of any othercountry in that most different nations have created in a constrained areaof which they knew the limits, meeting and overcoming otherdeveloping countries around them. Be that as it may, on account of North America, thefrontier was the place brutality and progress met, and no one knew whatlay past it. The pioneers of North America had no clue that thecontinent they had started settling was so hugely tremendous; they simplytook nature as it came. The pioneers need to adapt to naturalbarriers and get by in close to disorder, fundamentally beingself-adequate, has incredibly influenced the American culture oftoday. We will compose a custom article on The North American Frontier Contributed Greatly To Todays explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now One of the territories influenced by the wilderness experience waspolitics. Individuals on the wilderness needed to manage whatever lifebrought them and make its best. They figured out how to be veryindividualized, pushing their way through whatever hindrances naturepresented. This independence has driven Americans to create agovernment that encourages independence. We, the Americans, areusually dubious, untrusting, and distrustful of the administration becausewe like to be free, exclusively illuminating whatever problemsarise in our way to the objective. This mindset is appeared in the nationsprotests to the legislatures expanding oppression and mediation inour individual lives; be that as it may, a changing, developing country requireschanges in government. We trust in independence, and we apply thisbelief to all parts of our lives. In the alleged Wild West, government doesn't give as close consideration to people groups activities, andthis was the place by far most of the countries changes we know todayoriginated. For instance, activity, the privilege of the residents toinitiate another law into the lawmaking body; choice, the citizensright to straightforwardly cast a ballot a law energetically as opposed to passing it throughthe assembly; review, the residents to cast a ballot a degenerate legislatorout of office by method of appeal; and term limits were all reformsborn in the West. The explanation behind the administrations low association inWesterners day by day lives is that for quite a long time, even right up 'til the present time, manyparts of the West have still been building up their society, civilization, and state governments. In the East, where we have alwaysbeen on the acculturated side of the outskirts, individuals tend more to acceptthe governments rules, intellectually arriving at the resolution that thereis nothing they can do about it. In any case, in the West new thoughts for reformare continually being conceived. Obviously, there must be a compromisebetween an extremist government and complete disorder; too muchgovernment confines opportunity while too little government does notprovide the helpful taxpayer driven organizations we may take for granted, and permits society to get extremely insane. .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 , .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 .postImageUrl , .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 .focused content region { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 , .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79:hover , .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79:visited , .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79:active { border:0!important; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79:active , .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79:hover { darkness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-change: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content improvement: underline; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; fringe span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe range: 3px; content adjust: focus; content enrichment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cd d7d721afe79 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .ua42aa53b6ceb8bd5535cdd7d721afe79:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Antigone (495 words) EssayThe United States of America is a differing yet open minded socialmixing pot. In contrast to most different countries, America is a place of refuge formany, numerous races and religions. Individuals of a specific race or ethnicgroup generally live in bunches, insignificantly meddling with outsiders;taking this into mind, notwithstanding, numerous workers are as yet astonished bythe significant level of resistance America holds. Our resistance comes fromthe reality that such huge numbers of ethnic gatherings showed up here during thesettlement, and that the dark African slaves intermixed with thewhite network en ough to gain that resilience. Besides, in theWest various kinds of individuals can settle without upsetting oneanother in view of the immense void space out west to isolate them. Inaddition to our toleration of race and religion, America offers moreprivileges to its ladies than most different nations. This anomalyresults from the way that during settlement the ladies were requiredto accomplish certain compulsory work. They had almost a similar status as menin most parts of their lives. In the completely socialized society ofmodern America, in any case, ladies are not required to do similar occupations asmen, and are consequently on a lower status level. Right up 'til today, however, compared to different countries American ladies despite everything have a lot more rightssuch as claiming area, casting a ballot, and performing mens occupations. Instruction isanother part of public activity influenced by the outskirts. Open schoolswere important to teach youngsters at the hour of settle ment. Nosooner than the pioneers showed up here than the primary open schoolswere set up. Our general public today is as yet influenced by this furor tolearn. America is continually promising its kids to remain inschool, and American universities are probably the best on the planet. The wilderness additionally influenced current American economy. Duringsettlement, individuals didn't need or need an administration to meddle withthe countrys economy. Therefore a free enterprise financial framework wasestablished. Free enterprise is a term to portray an economy in whichthe government meddles next to no in everyday monetary activity, and such a framework is firmly identified with private enterprise. Economy inAmerica is one of hypothesis and hazard taking; America was settled soquickly due to the way that everything was bounteous and extremelyavailable or simple get. Theory was in actuality not an incredible hazard at allat that time, and even now, so individuals would face extraordinary challenges knowingthat the chances were so enormously in support of them. Still today, Americansnearly toss their cash into whatever new organization they think has achance, and, not surpsingly, frequently come out more extravagant than one coulddream. Americans likewise have a solid mechanical inclination, and are apeople of apparatuses and devices, in a manner of speaking. We have been such aninventive nation due to the way that we constantly expected to devisesome approach to get around an obstruction we found in nature. Another way, maybe one of the most significant, in which thefrontier has definitely influenced current American life ispsychologically. Americans when all is said in done appreciate taking care of issues orpuzzles, and Americans will ordinarily in any event make an endeavor to solveany issues that go up against them. This critical thinking character inmany Americans returns to the way that there were multitudinous tasksand issues set before the normal pilgrim every day: How would I getacross this stream? through this woods? construct something on thisforest? ward the wild creatures off? get food to eat? It is simple tosee that the pioneers had no real option except to tackle these issues oneway or another, or they would bite the dust. One negative perspective about thepsychology of our general public is that we are one of savagery more violentthan numerous ot

What is Sophism in Rhetoric

A plausible but fallacious argument, or deceptive argumentation in general. In rhetorical studies, sophism refers to the argumentative strategies practiced and taught by the Sophists. Etymology: From the Greek, wise, clever Examples and Observations: When a false argument puts on the appearance of a true one, then it is properly called a sophism or fallacy.(Isaac Watts, Logic, or The Right Use of Reason in the Enquiry After Truth, 1724)It is too often that sophism is mistaken for sheer falseness, or even more annoying, for paradox. . . . When logical incorrectness . . . is aimed at deceiving we are dealing with a sophism (abuse of intelligence).(Henri Wald, Introduction to Dialectical Logic. John Benjamins, 1975) Sophism in Ancient Greece Because of their developed ability to argue either side of a case, the Sophists students were powerful contestants in the popular debating contests of their day, and also were highly successful advocates in court. The dialectical method was employed in part because the Sophists accepted the notion of dissoi logoi or contradictory arguments. That is, Sophists believed that strong arguments could be produced for or against any claim. . . . [W]e should note that Western culture has come closer to following the argumentative model set out by Sophists like Protagoras and Gorgias in the actual conduct of its affairs than that suggested by Plato of seeking the truth by means of philosophical inquiry. (James A. Herrick, The History and Theory of Rhetoric. Allyn and Bacon, 2001)Sophism was not a school of thought. The thinkers who came to be called Sophists held a wide variety of views on most subjects. Even when we find some common elements in Sophism generally, there are exceptions to most of these generalizations. (Don E. Marietta, Introduction to Ancient Philosophy. M.E. Sharpe, 1998) Contemporary Sophism - What we find in both ancient Sophism and contemporary Sophistic rhetoric is a basic faith in civic humanism and a pragmatic approach to civic life. [Jasper] Neel, in Aristotles Voice [1994], however, points out that the contemporary Sophistic movement is not dependent on what the ancient Sophists may or may not have believed or taught. Rather, Neel argues, contemporary Sophism should inhabit the (human) discourse that Plato and Aristotle excluded under the name of Sophistry, regardless of whether that excluded and debased discourse correctly reproduces what anyone else in ancient Athens may have advocated (190). In other words, the mission of contemporary Sophism is not to figure out what the ancient Sophists believed and practiced, but rather to develop concepts that allow us to turn away from the absolutism of Western philosophy.Contemporary sophism, however, has been mainly occupied with the historical restoration of Sophistic beliefs and practices, using concepts from postmoder nism to patch together and flesh out a coherent Sophistic perspective. (Richard D. Johnson-Sheehan, Sophistic Rhetoric. Theorizing Composition: A Critical Sourcebook of Theory And Scholarship in Contemporary Composition Studies, ed. by Mary Lynch Kennedy. IAP, 1998)- In using the term sophist in my title I am not being insulting. Both Derrida and Foucault have argued in their writings on philosophy and culture that ancient sophism was a more significant critical strategy against Platonism, the hidden core in both of their views for philosophys suspect impulses, than traditional academics fully appreciate. But, more important, each makes an appeal to sophistic strategies in his own writing. (Robert DAmico, Contemporary Continental Philosophy. Westview Press, 1999) The Lazy Sophism: Determinism I knew an old man who had been an officer in the First World War. He told me that one of his problems had been to get men to wear their helmets when they were at risk from enemy fire. Their argument was in terms of a bullet having your number on it. If a bullet had your number on it, then there was no point in taking precautions, for it was going to kill you. On the other hand, if no bullet had your number on it, then you were safe for another day, and did not need to wear the cumbersome and uncomfortable helmet. The argument is sometimes called the lazy sophism. . . .Doing nothing--failing to put on a helmet, putting on an orange shawl and saying Om--represents a choice. To have your choosing modules set by the lazy sophism is to be disposed toward this kind of choice. (Simon Blackburn, Think: A Compelling Introduction to Philosophy. Oxford University Press, 1999)

When I saw there was light in the room I felt righted, and as I opened the door I heard grandpa shout, â€Å"Gee-up! † as loudly as a bull with a megaphone. He was sitting straight up in bed and rocking from side to side as though the bed were on a rough road and the knotted edges of the counterpane were his reins; his invisible horses stood in a shadow beyond the bedside candle. The Movie Roots essays

The Movie Roots essays In the history of the United States nothing has brought more shame to the face of America than the cold, premeditated years of keeping black people in captivity, which is known as slavery. Accordingly, slavery can be defined as an inhumane action done to an individual or group of people that causes either physical or mental harm. Slavery, at its very core was a cruel and heartless institution; from the idea behind it to the way it was enforced. It degraded the lives of human beings (particularly blacks) and forbade the basic freedom that every man and woman deserves, according to the Constitution. One example of how cruel and inhumane slavery actually was is the historical film Roots. In the movie Roots, the life of an enslaved African male named Kunta Kinta is followed, beginning with his abduction from his eighteenth century home in Africa. During this time, the Middle Passage was almost unbelievable, being that hundreds upon hundreds of Africans were abducted from their homes to go on boats to America. Consequently, Europeans traveled to Africa and captured Africans such as Kunta Kinta using guns in which many Africans had never seen before. This would later help develop their land and satisfy their need for power in the New World. The conditions on the boats were dreadful. The Africans soon to be slaves were packed like sardines and chained tightly together. Also, the temperature in the disease-infested rooms was unbearable and there was literally no fresh air for slaves to breathe. This particular part of the movie, I thought was one of the most significant parts, because it allowed the viewer to actually see the conditions on these boats. They seemed much like a slaughterhouse and I cant imagine how anyone could have survived in such a detrimental environment. In fact, Olaudah Equiano a former slave and loyal British subject said that, sleep was the only refuge. Consequently, the...

Discuss the extent to which a high level of Emotional Intellegence can Essay

Discuss the extent to which a high level of Emotional Intellegence can make a possitive contribution to workplace performance. Use examples to illustrate your a - Essay Example Slowly, theories have emerged as to how people can build-up their emotional strength, and as to what kind of emotional quotient is required for selection by an organisation. Now it forms the basis of all recruitment processes in most good organisations. Consequently, the definition has been expanded to include emotional identification, perception and expression, facilitation of thought, understanding and management as branches of mental ability (Steve Hein, 2005). Better Emotional Intelligence quotient can help attain better efficiency through maintaining better working environment thereby increase productivity of an individual and the organisations. Scientific evaluation of individuals' Emotional Intelligence during recruitment is in vogue for almost a decade now. A leader with better EI has been consistently a better motivator and performer than his peers during his career. Broadly speaking, these abilities include ability to understand emotional feelings expressed by individuals, direct them for better handling and cognitive processes, understand and respect the complexities of emotions in life and work situations and thereafter manage them for achieving the eventual goal in life or the organisation. All of us have come across parents, friends, teachers, bosses and even children showing emotional outbursts at the drop of a hat making them unpopular among the peers and families There is a separate branch of psychology called Transaction Analysis dealing with why these happen, how to understand them, control them and use these emotions constructively for benefit of the individuals. On the whole, people with low EI not only spoil the working environment around them and bring disharmony in relationships, both personal and professional, they also have a negative effect on the very performance of the individual and thereby low motivation and morale leading to reduced profitability to the organisations. Leaders have a very important role to play in this regard, and EI workshops for them have become norms in most organisations. The ultimate performance of a business is directly linked to a leader's application of Emotional Intelligence (Gantz Wiley Research 1996). The research has brought out a model as to how good leadership values and stable EI would lead to better performance of employees, which in turn could make the customers happy thereby spread the good word. Finally it will mean better profits for the organisation and improved productivity from an individual. Good Relationship Practices (= Better EI) - Employee Results (Performance due o

Viewpoints of Benjamin Harrison Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Viewpoints of Benjamin Harrison - Research Paper Example Being a farmer, it was mandatory that he was to use slaves on his plantations. Despite the ruthlessness that was being shown to the slaves, he seemed to have a soft spot for them. He was a nationalist who believed that the Americans had the same rights as Britons as well as other groups of people. His resistance to the obnoxious stamp duty against tea is an indicator of his resentment to economic injustices committed against the Americans. He would be very happy to establish that there is more economic freedom today. Many individuals can manage to live a decent life and have free opportunities to engage in economic activities without much oppression from the government of the day. In addition, the fact that the resources within the country are used for the good of its citizens and not foreigners, then Harrison would have appreciated the effort that has been put. Benjamin V viewed societal injustices from a personal viewpoint and attempted to do something about it. He went ahead to us e his own resources in the activism that opposed the bill that mentioned that the laws passed by the Virginia parliament were contrary to the law. He would be pleased to notice the separation of powers between the states and the federal government and how they are able to work in synchrony. In another situation, he condemned the enactment of the intolerable acts and joined hands with others to form the continental congress. He is on record for having desired to unite the Americans to fight against the ruthlessness of the colonial master.

Strategic Business Management And Planning For Amazon

Strategic Business Management And Planning For Amazon 1. INTRODUCTION Strategic management can be defined as the set of decisions and actions that result in the formulation and implementation of plans designed to achieve a companys objective(Pearce, J.A and Robinson, R.B., Strategic management: formulation, implementation and control, McGraw-Hill ) This essay is based on the study of Amazon.com. I started by talking about the E-commerce and a brief history of Amazon. Then I moved on to the strategic thinking of the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, and the strategies he used to make Amazon so successful and the strategy implementation. To analyse the company I used PESTLE and SWOT analysis. Financial ratios are used to analyse the companys financial position and financial performance. Finally I conclude the essay by giving my suggestions about the companys future. The material is taken from different journals, articles and books and all the material is properly referenced. 2. AMAZON.COM (AN E-COMMERCE GIANT) E-commerce is extremely competitive and dynamic market. Firm in this market is constantly changing and challenges. He and his strategy in order to investigate the change of life and has to compete with rivals. important factor is customer service and satisfaction. Amazon is the first company who started online book retailing service. The name has become synonymous with e-commerce and is one of the few Internet brands recognised the world over(The Economist 2000). Amazons superior customer service is one of the secrets behind its success; I would argue it also has a first mover advantage. First movers or pioneering firms enjoy higher market share derived from substantial and enduring sales advantage. (Robinson,1988) and (Lambkin,1988). The Amazon.com model is very simple and beguilingly attractive (Fortune,1997). According to the Amazon model: expensive inventory and brick and mortar warehouse are not needed by the new age retailer and all that is needed is a website to present a face to greet customers and takes their orders. Other parties handle the capital-intensive aspects of stocking inventory. Why Amazon.com I will continue to amazon.com because it is a little different and various people are not aware of this, he worked as a search engine as well. Would you like to listen to Britney Spears? (After all, one has to!) and type you are looking for new albums.Based only type of research can take account of the Amazon to work almost 100% of the time. Amazon Books, CDs, DVDs and video works well because it is what we call a uniquely identified. users can easily find a unique item identified, because they know what they want. BUSINESS STRATEGIC PLANING ( MODELS, CONCEPTS AND TOOLS) Strategic planning is to create a vision for the future management and direction to life. He has acted in accordance with the mission statement that focuses on the umbrella business organizations. This is an effective procedure to determine its short-term results with long-term goals. Strategic planning answers three big questions: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Where are we now? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Where are we in the future? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ What should be the focus now, so that it is more likely that we would be where we want to be in the future? This is a simple process with the incredible power of your organization and to bridge the gap between long-term vision and day-to-day tactical switch gap. What to answer three basic questions that the teams develop action plans for their first step in that direction now! Now it is the daily, weekly, monthly, and during this quarter. Design team processes are as valuable as the plan. (Some states have become even more important.) Single-manager will try to implement your company time and tried to run away and sit down to create a vision, mission, strategy and goals. such plans are generally very good, all very intuitive and smart CEO. As an alternative, the Director-General may hire a planning consultant. The hard truth is that the best plan is one that would indeed be implemented. This is why the plan, the team always beat the team plan. If youre in the middle of the short-term crisis, as all out to promote a new product out the door youll have to wait until every member of the planning team will be suspended for two days. On the other hand, if you are a long-term crisis for months planning meeting is a great opportunity to make a few steps back, and the choice of situations. Maybe the only way out of crisis mode to invest in changing the status quo, improving infrastructure, developing new markets, new products, creating a competitive strategy that will replace the team above their heads, to set the legacy products, markets, customers and employees share. Strategic planning is not about predicting the future, read the crystal ball, or call psychic hotline. Strategic planning is to ask what future actions will be developed in the future they want. If you will be in five years? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Not where you think you will. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ There is no place that you would predict. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Where do you want to be. JEFF BEZOS STRATEGIC THINKING Schuler and Jackson, 1987 classify business strategy into three types: cost reduction, innovation and quality enhancement (source: Schuler and Jackson,1987). I agree with Jackson and Schà ¼ler (1987), when Bezos was innovative and use it as a strategy. But it does not only focus on innovation and growth, and expand your knowledge not only helps to a large market share but also to compete with rivals, as well as a major player in an alliance..As according to Porter and Fuller : By strategic alliance firms gain the benefits of economies of scale, access to scarce knowledge and skills and spread the risks of research and innovation. (Porter and Fuller,1986) At one place during his interview, Jeff Bezos says, Our vision is that we want to be the worlds most customer -centric company and a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online. (Hof and Robert D, 1999) and we are not a book company, we are not a music company, we are not a video company we are not an auctions company: we are customer company (Hof and Robert D, 1999). As the online marketing and sales, insurance transactions are very curious as to why customers want to buy online. Jeff Bezos attention to the safety and security of customer transactions increased confidence and self belief. Customers personal information, including name, address and credit card information is encrypted, which is impossible to read and can be safely travel over the Internet, resulting in increased customer facilities. Bezos believes the sign, taking into account the interests of business success. This is why it is named after the Amazon river in the world to become the worlds largest online bookstore, and we see this day. This is not surprising given the fact that the company spends approximately 40 per cent of its revenue on brand building (Margolis, 1999) due to its firm belief that customers first and foremost look for trusted brands when they deal online (Hof and Hemelstein, 1999). Competitive Advantage Competitive advantage is a factor, or combination of factors that the organization is more successful than other organizations in a competitive environment, and can not be easily copied by its competitors. Strategy Process of Amazon.Com In the search for sources of sustainable competitive advantage, JEFF BEZOS has realized that business performance depends not only on the formulation and successful implementation of a given strategy but also on the process by which competitive positions are created or maintained. (i) Innovation: The main strategy used by Jeff bezos is customer-focused innovation. As Pearson and Robinson (2000) argue that some firms find it profitable to make innovation their grand strategy. (Pearson and Robinson 2000).Thats why he had great focus on continuous innovation, by introducing new technologies to enhance customer experience. Because customers expects continuous change and new products and services. Bezos believed in innovation as a key to success and to compete with competitors. According to (Pearson and Robinson,2000) most growth oriented firms appreciate the need to be innovative (Pearson and Robinson 2000). According to Bob de Wit and Ronley (1998) innovation requires brooding, tinkering, experimentation, testing and patience, as new ideas grow and take shape (Bob de Wit and Ronley,1998). Rigid and continuous innovation in the electronic commerce has been Amazons heritage. (ii) Diversification: Another strategy Jeff Bezos used for the Amazon is diversification. He used both product diversification and business diversification. From time to time he introduced new products in order to meet customers needs and demands. Thats the reason today Amazon has millions of customers who visit the website and satisfy their needs. According to Pearson and Robinson (2000) firms seeks balance in their portfolios between current business with cyclical sales and acquired business with counter cyclical sales between high-cash/ low opportunity and low-cash/high opportunity businesses or between debt-free and highly leveraged business (Pearson and Robinson 2000). I agree with Pearson and Robinson (2000), since Bezos had seen opportunity and growth in new businesses e-g, toys, jewellery, games and health and beauty etc. Bezos is seen quite successful in the business diversification, which obvious from his popularity of current business position. As Johnson and Scholes (1993) argue that firms whi ch diversify by building on their core business do better than those who diversify in an unrelated way (Johnson and Scholes,1993). (iii) Human resource strategy: Human resource plays important role in the success of a business. As Pearson and Robinson (2000) states that a firms ability to attract and hold capable employees is essential to its success (Pearson and Robinson,2000). Bezos had great focus on strengthening of management team and for this he appointed many senior managers and directors from time to time. Since business strategy and HR strategy has a significant effect on the organizations performance, so in order to achieve high performance, their must be linkage between these two strategies. Bezos is seen quite successful in doing this. (iv) Acquisitions: Another strategy Bezos used for the growth of the business is acquisitions. According to Pearson and Robinson (2000) the acquisitions of one or more similar firms eliminate competitors and provide the acquiring firm with access to new markets (Pearson and Robinson 2000). I do agree with Pearson and Robinson as Bezos acquired many firms to support expansion into the European market place. Bezos acquired many other dot COM companies providing different services to its customers. I can argue Bezos this strategic thinking helped him to reduce competitors and maked Amazon no 1 in the world. (v) Joint ventures Jeff Bezos also used joint ventures for the expansion and growth of his business. According to Bartlett et al (2004) multinationals used joint ventures extensively as a way not only to navigate through bureaucratic processes but also to learn about new markets (Bartlett et al,2004). Amazon had joint ventures with key Internet players, which provide a huge customer base and an opportunity to grow in the new markets. Bartlett et al (2004) argue that executives look for growth in the big emerging markets, they tend quite naturally to focus on the size of the opportunity and the challenges that lie ahead (Bartlett et al 2004). I think Bezos had joint ventures because he saw an opportunity for growth. 5. STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION The successful implementation of strategies will require invariably require some degree of change in the organizations resource profile (Johnson and Scholes,1993). Jeff Bezos used innovation and continuous growth as main strategies in his business, which he achieved through continuous technology improvement and expansion in the form of acquisitions and joint ventures. It is seen that many strategies fail because of lack of management interest. It is vital that in order to implement a successful strategy, necessary resources should be allocated to it, also the internal and external factors play major role in the success of strategy. It arent what you do, its the way that you do it- thats what gets results (Anon, 2003). Jeff Bezos is quite successful in implementing the strategies at right time as the timing of a strategy is vital, if one is to get in before a rival aiming for a market advantage with a similar idea (Anon, 2003). Amazon , the biggest online retailer in the world, is working harder to bolster its European Union presence through expanding its distribution network and reaching into new markets, the Financial Times reported. (Source: (CORPORATE IT UPDATE via COMTEX) 4 January 2011) Because of its strategic position in the region, it is much attracted by multinationals from all over the world including United States, and Germany etc. Lastyear, Amazon added 11 distribution centres to its network and Goldman Sachs analysts say that all but two were located outside the US. According to their research, there were three European, five Chinese and one Japanese opening in 2010. Amazon added an Italian website to the ones it operates in France, Germany and the UK, and acquired Spain-based Buyvip for nearly USD100m (EUR75m). Amazon is currently boosting staff numbers in Luxembourg, where its European headquarters are based. The group is looking for experts in logistics and shipping to ensure the smooth progress of the expansion and raise the efficiency of the distribution network. Technological Factors à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ the biggest online shopping site and e-commerce one of the most widely known on the Internet. Jeff Bezos founded in 1995, it had 11 employees by years end. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Within four years, has more than 1,600 employees and four million customers. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ 1990, Amazon has more than four million names of CDs, videotapes, DVDs and games for free. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ It is still a new business lines, including toys, electronics, software, electrical appliances and home improvement products, online auctions and services to increase data center à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ (Amazon Elastic Computer Cloud) datacenter services from Amazon Web Services Amazon.com company developers. There are conflicts in the HP iPAQ Pocket PC cost. demand that the site took hours and when they return, low prices have been removed and replaced with the truth. Environmental Factors à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ In the Amazon, we are always looking for ways to reduce our environment. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Buying online is generally more environmentally friendly than traditional retailing. Is Amazon.com a model for the future of retailing? E-commerce was invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1744, but they Mailorder time. The only difference between the catalog Franklin (who sold books) and Amazon. Amazon using the computer and wrote a letter to Franklin. I remember when I first e-commerce, whatever. All I hear is no one intends to kill the store to go shopping .. no one to go to the center of it only. Sit at home and for what. Wrong. Shopping is a social activity, is a big difference between sitting at home clicking around with your friends and get the center of a cappuccino, get your nails and evaluating dressed funny. Or in the case, go to the tool department of Sears and cigar humidor shop. Amazon and other e-retailers in place. The best way is to compare a number of objects in a very short period of time. What you can find things online that are available on the spot. But the future of retailing? No AMAZONS FUTURE (Nature, Scope and Need) We see that though Amazon has a strong position in the market, but still there are weaknesses and threats that it is facing. Surviving as well as establishing and maintaining a competitive position in the online market place requires a constant strategic re-orientation and organizational evolution (EfthymiosConstantinides, 2004). According to Riolli-saltzman and Luthane-commerce companies can be successful if they combine future orientation with organizational adaptability and flexibility (Riolli-saltzman and Luthan,2000), Amazon needs to have constant change in business strategy as Kippenberger argued strategy formulation is determined by time or circumstances therefore there is no one best way to form strategy. (Kippenberger,1998) Since online consumers are concern about the trust, so Amazon need to offer other communication channels e-g telephone, post etc. Customers trust can be build in this way. One cant say that it will become the Wal-mart of the Internet. Because its overall aim is to provide low cost products and services to customers and good relation with its suppliers, while Wal-mart true strength has been its ability to squeeze suppliers (Economist,2000) and also there is huge difference between the profitability of Amazon and Wal-mart. Amazon needs to implement new marketing strategies that will help to increase customers base, awareness of product and services and strengthen the brand name. A continuous innovation through creating specialized software would be helpful to business. Since human resource play an important role in the success of a business, so to motivate and retain employees, some sort of reward system not just for executives but for ordinary employees is also needed to be introduced and also the ability to attract and hire the qualified personnel. There will always be a threat of competition, but if Bezos keep growing by making alliances and investments, this not only can drive the competitors out but will also help to maintain its position in the market. Finally to me Amazons business model seems the right model and its future is bright. CONCLUSION From SWOT AND PESTEL analysis we see that Amazon.com has great advantage and strong position over its competitors. There are many opportunities to grow but also there is a need of a good business strategy to follow. The economic condition of Amazon.com is getting better after becoming the part of the European Union and the business is growing in the world. To me the future of Amazon looks bright and many development opportunities are available to it.

Citizenship Coursework- Illegal Downloading

More than 8 million people are illegally downloading at any one time; it has become a major problem for the music industry. Many people do not see the problem it causes and many do not realise the effect of what they are doing, some don't even seem to know that it is illegal. Although most people do not seem to notice the effects, the film and music industry are noticing. They are noticing a loss in revenue. This then prevents things such as new upcoming or just plain decent only just found musicians and artist. Plus some films never make it to production, there original ideas never to be shared. Musicians pushing forward in the career are missing out on opportunities after much time and effort has been put in (plus there are a lot of band that just fluke it to success). So on general people in these industries that deserve to be recognised have a much less chance thanks to illegal downloading. Basically it's Stealing, stealing music is the same as stealing anything else. It is illegal and the consequences are real – for you and for the music. Stealing music is against the law. Stealing music betrays the songwriters and recording artists who create it and stifles the careers of new artists and up and coming bands. Stealing music threatens the livelihood of the thousands of working people from recording engineers to music retailers and their staffs who are employed in this industry. Downloading music is a great way of reaching out for musicians if it is done in a controlled manner in which the musicians can still be paid for there ‘work'. Plus it is just another way that people can access musician's songs. This is a handy way for customers as we live in a society that uses mp3 players where all their music is transferred over the media device. Rather than good old CD players and well cassette players, where you had to go out and but the CD's or tape, which is more efficient from piracy. But artist have to keep up with modern devices to make sure their music gets out there. Fans want to access music in the easiest possible way and that way is over the internet rather than going to town to but the CD, just being lazy. Although some may be down to the fact a lot of teenagers are unable or don't know how to set up an account with a legal download site or company such as iTunes. But want is quite worrying to say the least is the fact that there are those out there who do now realise it is wrong. Also there are those who try to justify illegal downloading. For the customer it all comes down to two many things; cost and convenience. The only decent way about it is if the music is downloaded illegally and the person likes that album or whatever they then go out and buy it, if they don't then they just delete it. It is a way about it but not around it, There will always be those trying to get what they want for a little as possible and if that is free then they will do it. It is just that the internet can do so much to help new band get recognised, however the internet is pretty much impossible to monitor and patrol completely and strictly. People will take advantage of this and are doing so. Illegal downloading is a hot topic and those who have an opinion may differ hugely form other, a lot tend to sit back about the situation but those that take side tend to feel strongly about it. There are those that realise what they are doing and continue to do so without thinking about the negative effects they are having on peoples lives, not just the musicians but others working in the industry. On the other hand they should do more to allow more to by CD's as many of them are highly priced, which they don't need to be as more money comes from gigs then album sales. Then again there is no excuses for downloading illegally. Though the music industry should realise that it must spread out across the internet and do it's best to appeal to customer over the internet. .Both sides of this argument have to make changes, as they are actually both losing out, the industry are making loses and the listener are missing out on potentially great music from artist not given a chance, as well as them missing out. So changes must be made to end piracy and get the music industry to appeal to more people so no losses are made and all is pretty damn good.
